Culicoides aomoriensis Kitaoka 1991: 289. Japan
(Kitaoka 1991: 289. ♀, desc, figs)
Diagnosis and Notes
The wings are dark greyish, with prominent pale markings; the second radial cell is pale and there is no pale spot at the distal end of cell r5. There are two spots in cells m1 and m2 with distinct “tails” extending towards the base of the wing, and the second radial cell is included in a pale spot. In this it closely resembles species of the Afrotropical milnei group, and species of the subgenus Hoffmania. The female AR is 1.09-1.12, and the SD is 3, 11-15. It was described from two females only.
The male is unknown.
The figure of the wing is after Kitaoka (1991).
