Diagnosis and Notes
There have been a number of interpretations of C. saevanicus Dzhafarov1960. Szadziewski (1984) has redescribed this species and designated a neotype; he also presented a table of characters to separate it from C. saevanicus and C. jumineri Callot & Kremer, neither of which have been recorded from Britain. At first sight it closely resembles C. pictipennis, with pale spots at the tips of cells R5, M1 and M2 which are cut by the wing margin; but it has the second radial cell only partly pale and lacks sensilla on female antennal segment 15. Also, the anal cell has the baseal part pale and separated widely from another large spot near vein CU2. The female AR is 1.15-1.17; the SD is 3-14.
The figure of the wing is from Szadziewski (1984); the male genitalia do not seem to have been figured.
