Culicoides mesghalii
Navai 1973: 196. TL Iran
(Navai 1973: 196. ♂, ♀, desc, figs, biology)
Diagnosis and Notes
The wings are pale with rather
vague dark markings reminiscent of C. imicola save that in this species
the second radial cell is completely dark. The female AR is 0.94-1.18; the SD
is 3, 7-14, often also on 5 and 6. The third palpal segment is distinctive,
as shown, being very swollen with
numerous small sensory pits. The male genitalia are as shown; the posterior
margin of the ninth tergite almost straight, the ventral roots of the
basistyles foot-shaped, the parameres long and slender and the aedeagus
slender, triangular.
The figures are from Boorman (1989).
