C. raripalpis (Smith 1929)

Culicoides raripalpis Smith 1929: 256. India
(Smith 1932: 181. ♀, description, fig)
(Amosova 1957: 234. ♀, notes, record, Russia)

Diagnosis and Notes

This species was described from Assam and noted as biting man. Amossova (1957) gives figures of the wing, eyes, palp and spermatheca, and also noted it as biting (there is an English summary at the back of the paper). These specimens were taken in Ussuri, on the far eastern part of Russia, and are probably more related to the Oriental rather then the Palaearctic fauna. However, it is included here. No details of the AR or SD were given. The eyes are figured as touching. There appears to be little difference between this species and humeralis.
The figures are from Amosova (1957).
