Culicoides wardi Boorman 1989: 209. TL U.A.E.

Diagnosis and Notes

A medium-sized species with the wings marked with a prominent pattern of pale and dark spots as in the figure; the second radial cell dark. The female AR is1.03-1.16; the SD is 3, 5, 7, 9 and 11-14, occasionally also on 4, 6 and 8. The female palp is moderately swollen with a small circular deep sensory pit and two spermathecae. The male genitalia as shown; the ninth tergite with a deep posterior notch, the ninth sternite membrane bare; the parameres broad and blade-like, joined at their base.
